Being a leader inside a company is one thing, being recognized for it by one’s peers across an entire industry is quite another. It’s with great pride that the entire Contour Team offers our Senior Metallurgical Engineer, Kyle Hummel, a heartfelt congratulations for being named to Heat Treat Today’s 2019 Class of 40 under 40. Heat Treat Today’s annual 40 Under 40 feature publication places a spotlight on young, up-and-coming engineering talent in the North American heat treat industry who have offered significant contributions to the heat treat industry.

Kyle Hummel
Senior Metallurgical Engineer

Neil Merrell, Contour Vice President said, “Kyle is always the first to accept challenging projects. In fact, it’s where he thrives. He has expanded the company’s induction offerings, increased internal shop capacity 20%, and instituted 100% non-destructive testing on fully automated lines. Kyle developed a process improvement to include Nitrogen shielding atmospheres to eliminate abrasive blastings. He is a member of Contour’s Senior Leadership Team, which is responsible for 12 Key descriptors to guide the 5 year Strategic Plan”.

As a registered PE, Kyle is giving back by being a member of the Professional Engineer’s panel that writes and reviews questions for the PE exam. He is also an active member of the Metal Treating Institute and is a 2019 graduate of the YES program; and he is a contributing author to the ASM Handbook on Induction Hardening, volume 4C.

Ben Crawford, Contour President & CEO stated, “Although there’s no such thing as a perfect team member, Kyle is as close as you’re going to get. He is a well-rounded engineer capable of effectively and efficiently communicating with anyone from the president of Contour and the leadership team to those on the shop floor. When a task needs to be done and done right, Kyle Hummel is who Contour relies on. His is going to be one of those names you’ll continue to hear good things about in the heat treat industry for years to come”.
